2 die, 46 recover as coronavirus cases in Zimbabwe continue to drop

Two people died of coronavirus today and 46 recovered with active cases dropping to 855.

There were 19 new cases raising the total to 36 684. Deaths now stand at 1 514 and recoveries at 34 315.

Manicaland recorded 25 recoveries which saw the number of active cases in the province drop to 34. Harare has 443 active cases, Bulawayo 98 and Matebeleland North is still at 204.

Zimbabwe fact checking organisation, Zimfact, today dismissed reports by South African television channel ENCA that the country might reimpose a lockdown because coronavirus cases were on the increase.

It said that the number of new cases rose from 217 on the first day of the year and peaked that month at 1356 on 5 January. New cases then eased to 160 on 1 February, 50 on 15 February, 26 on 1 March, 20 on 15 March, and 41 on 19 March. They were down to 3 yesterday.

According to the Ministry of Health 565 people were vaccinated today bringing the total to 43 294.

Some 246 people received the second dose today bringing the total to 280.
