15 Zimbabwean Muslims in UK jails

There were 15 Zimbabwean Muslims, out of a total of 174 Zimbabwean prisoners, in United Kingdom jails at the end of December last year according to the under-secretary for Justice Jeremy Wright.

Wright was responding to a question from Sadiq Khan, the Shadow secretary for Justice, who wanted to know the number of Muslims in British jails. They totalled 11 729 out of 84 163 prisoners.

The majority of the prisoners, some 72 561 were British nationals and among them were 8 284 Muslims.

The country with the highest number of Muslims in jail in the UK was Pakistan with 533 out of 548 followed by Somalia with 406 out of 430.
