The Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai today brushed off reports that its treasurer-general had failed to account for the US$500 000 that the party received under the Political Parties Finance Act saying this was the work of Central Intelligence Organisation agents who are grossly offended by the increasing popularity of the party.
“Reports that a fight has erupted within the MDC after the treasurer-general allegedly failed to account for the sum of US$500 000 disbursed to the party under the Political Parties Finance Act are nothing but a false, puerile, stale and wicked attempt by ZANU-PF agents and CIO infiltrators to destabilise the MDC,” the party said in a statement.
The report about the fight was carried by the privately-owned Zimbabwe Independent which said party leaders had spent most of their time discussing the money at their weekend retreat. The paper said treasurer Theresa Makone had allegedly failed to account for the money given to the party after the 2013 elections.
The government allocates money to parties depending on the seats they hold in parliament.
“If anything, the current level of financial transparency in the manner in which party funds are handled and utilised in the MDC are nothing short of exemplary,” the MDC-T said. “The allegation that certain party leaders within the MDC are abusing party funds for their own personal and selfish benefit should be dismissed with the contempt that it deserves. Such false and misleading stories are deliberately planted by misguided ZANU- PF sympathisers and CIO infiltrators who are grossly offended by the rising and increasing popularity of the MDC.”

Zanu PF and the CIO desperate to infiltrate the MDC
It is beyond debate that Morgan Tsvangirai is the most popular political leader in Zimbabwe at the moment. In similar measure, it is also indisputable that the MDC that he leads is the largest and most supported political party in Zimbabwe. Indeed, the MDC is the real deal, the only game in town.
Because Robert Mugabe and the moribund and ragtag Zanu PF political outfit that he leads are acutely aware of the massive and breath – taking mass appeal and popularity of Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC, the CIO and all other organs of the Zanu PF regime have been specifically tasked to inflict maximum damage on the Tsvangirai brand and also to infiltrate and destabilise the MDC. Hence, the relentless onslaught by the Zanu PF – controlled media to fabricate false and malicious stories about Tsvangirai’s personal life as well as the ceaseless campaign to infiltrate the MDC structures in order to cause panic, confusion, alarm and despondency.
From Friday, February 20, 2015 up to Sunday, February 22, 2015, the MDC national executive held an extremely successful retreat which culminated in the adoption of realistic, achievable and measurable targets and objectives that will ultimately lead to the party assuming State power within the next few months. The people of Zimbabwe have suffered enough at the hands of the corrupt and inept Zanu PF gerontocracy and we have now entered the homestretch on our journey to a new Zimbabwe.

The people of Zimbabwe are looking to the MDC as the only legitimate and viable political party that will deliver them to a new republic in which the economy will be resuscitated and the living standards of the majority of the people will be markedly improved.
